Esther Merino, winner of the 2022 Mining Lamp, guest star at El Pozo del Flamenco
The show, classical in nature, takes a tour of the most significant styles of the genre and confirms the quality of the cultural programming of Puente de Vallecas
Merino, of Badajoz origin, claims the Extremadura tradition of flamenco, also being inspired by great classics such as Antonio Mairena, Carmen Linares or La Paquera de Jerez.
Tomorrow, Saturday, February 17, at 8:00 p.m., the El Pozo Cultural Center, in Puente de Vallecas, will host one of the most relevant performances of its El Pozo Flamenco cycle: the performance of Esther Merino, accompanied by Niño Seve a the guitar and Miguel Valle and Adrián Mejías on the palmas, a classical show in which the singer will take a tour of the most significant styles with songs such as malagueñas, soleá, alegrías, tangos, tonás, seguidillas, bulerías, fandangos or cantes of Levante. Admission is free until capacity is reached.
Esther Merino won the Mining Lamp in 2022, the most important award at the Las Minas Cante Festival, and became the undisputed star of that edition by also winning the awards for Mineras, Tarantos, Cartageneras and Cantes Bajoandaluces. But Merino had already stood out in previous editions. In 2016, she was a finalist for the Lamp and took home the Tarantas and Levantica award. In 2017, she repeated the Lampara final and won the Tarantas prize again and in 2021, she was a finalist in the international flamenco competition.
Of Badajoz origin, in her live performances she is a faithful representative of the interpretation of this genre that arises from the tradition of artists, dealers and gypsies from Extremadura. Likewise, the singer claims the influence of great teachers such as Antonio Mairena, Carmen Linares or La Paquera de Jerez.
